Recalling how she lost her leg at age 10, Cindy Chilaka told The Punch that she was not born with disability. It started in 2010 when she was in Primary Six; She was 10 years old then. Her father came with a bike man to pick her up from school. On their way home they had an accident; a car hit them. The bike man survived the accident but Cindy Chilaka and her dad were badly injured. The accident happened close to a hospital and it was a Good Samaritan that rushed them to the hospital.

She was injured below the knee. Her dad also sustained an injury to his knee and up till now, he still sometimes complains of pains. Cindy Chilaka Adaugo’s own injury was the worst. The doctor in charge checked her leg and ran some tests. The following day, the doctor didn’t come to the hospital. They said he needed to attend to some issues. Within two days, her injury got really worse. She was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri. The doctor that attended to her said the situation was bad and said the only option was to amputate her leg. He said if the leg was not amputated her parents might end up losing her. So, they had no other option than to get the leg amputated.
